现为南京艺术学院美术学院教授，美术学博士，南京艺术学院中国画研究院执行院长。《中国画研究》主编，硕士研究生导师，中国美术家协会会员。

    长期致力于中国画创作及艺术理论研究，中国画作品《织》、《月亮湖》、《丹心》等曾参加国家及省级展览并获奖。出版专著《艺术状态》、《“前海派”绘画研究》、《传承与创造》、《中国画笔墨研究》等多部，发表学术论文数十篇。中国画作品被多家机构和私人收藏，部分作品被全国人大常委会作为国礼赠送外国领导人。

    Born in Lianyungang of Jiangsu Province, Gu Weixi has ever been the assistant to the dean of Art Institute of Shanghai University, vice-dean of Public Art Research Institute, Director of Editorial Department of Chinese Art Research, vice-dean of Chinese Painting College of Guangxi Arts Institute, curator of art museum, doctor and professor of fine arts, postgraduate tutor, foregoer of the subject of art history, executive member of the council and secretary-general of Lijiang River School of Promotion Association. 

    Now, he is the professor and doctor of Art College of Nanjing University of the Arts, and the executive dean of China Academy of Chinese Painting of Nanjing University of the Arts, and the editor-in-chief of Chinese Painting Research, and the postgraduate tutor, and the member of Chinese Artists Association.

    He has been devoted to the creation  of Chinese paintings and the research of artistic theory for a long time, the Chinese paintings works, Weave, Moon Lake, Loyal Heart and more, have been participated in the exhibition and won rewards in the country and some provinces. There are several published monographs like Art Status, “Qianhai Type” Painting Research, Inherit and Create, Chinese Paintings’ Ink Research, and so on, and over ten academic papers. Most of his Chinese paintings are collected by several organizations and individuals, and some works, as the national gifts, are sent to the foreign leaders by the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress.
